How about those Denver Broncos? Pittsburgh was no match for Tim Tebow and his ‘friends in high places’. Maybe Jesus really does watch football! In the past we only saw his work in the 4th quarter but yesterday he showed up in the 2nd. Must have been a slow day or maybe…

Jesus had hoped he could go
Skiing, but where was the snow?
With Tahoe still warmin’
And Utah still Mormon
He ended in Denver with Tebow.

Tim Tebow Plays On A Wing And A Prayer

You can’t help but be amazed by the recent success of Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos (disclaimer: I’ve been a Denver fan since I was ‘knee high to a duck’). That doesn’t mean I drank the Tebow kool-aid. Watching the guy play gives me heartburn. Watching him throw a pass makes me cringe! I don’t know how long his winning ways can continue but it has certainly added drama to Broncos football. I’ve bought him a Christmas present below. Hope it helps.

The Broncos and Tebow are winning
And keeping the Denver fans grinning,
But if God has a say
Then Tim better pray
‘Cause his passing just borders on sinning.

The 49ers are Fool’s Gold

I’m not a big San Francisco 49ers fan even though I live in the bay area, but I get to read all about them in the local papers. After their latest dismal loss the coach described their offense as still in a ‘process’ of learning. A little to optimistic me thinks. I still blame the owning York family who have demonstrated over the years their complete inability to build a winning franchise. It will be a long time before the 49ers strike gold again.

This year thought the team might be bucking
Their losing trend but now they’re ducking
The fact it’s not turning
With a ‘process’ of learning
That’s more like a ‘process’ for sucking.

Thomas Levet Needs to Learn How to Celebrate

When Thomas Levet won the French Open golf tournament he literally jumped for joy…into an adjoining lake. Golfers have done this before ( the winner of the women’s Kraft Nabisco Championship always jumps into the pond at #18). However, these kind of stunts are best left to the younger players. There is a reason you can’t teach an old dog new tricks…the smart ones know their limitations.

Levet was excited to win
But now’s looking back with chagrin
As his jump in the lake
Turned out a mistake
When he ended up breaking his shin!

A jump for joy until he landed

Sex, Sheep and BYU

A BYU basketball player was suspended for violating the school honor code by having pre-marital sex with his girlfriend. I suppose the school assumes that promising not to have sex builds moral character. What’s the purpose of an honor code that asks you to commit to something pointless? The only requirement for becoming a member of the flock is to become one of the sheep.

The honor code depravation
Had school wide approbation
So are we to assume
When in your own room
There’re no rules against masturbation?

Green Bay Wins, Black Eyed Peas Lose

Green Bay wins Super Bowl XLV (that’s 45 for us mere mortals). It was a well contested game but not a great game. Both teams played hard but made plenty of mistakes. Green Bay dropped too many passes and Pittsburgh had too many turnovers. The over-hyped half time show with the Black Eyed Peas was a real bust. They used recorded background music that was very hard to hear so all we got was lyrics with no melody or beat to back them up. And their performance went on way to long. Good thing we had plenty of food and booze.

The defense of Pittsburgh was lacking
As the offense of Green Bay was racking
Up points on the board
‘Til enough had been scored,
To be sending the Steelers home packing.

Pittsburgh and Green Bay are Super Bowl Bound

There were some good football games this weekend. The first half of both games was rather lopsided but second half rallies led both to exciting finishes. It should be a well contested Super Bowl. I’m neutral except for the bet with my wife. Go Pittsburgh!

Fate has just pulled in it’s feelers
To turn events over to dealers
Who’ll work out the spread
For the big game ahead,
The Super Bowl – Packers and Steelers.

I Would Love a New York

The San Francisco 49ers football team has been looking for a new coach and found one in Jim Harbaugh from Stanford. They should also look for a new owner. The York family has taken this once storied franchise straight into the dumper! Then daddy York gave the team to his son Jed who is carrying on the family tradition of losing. This is something like the fifth coach in eight years so it’s clear to all but the York family that the coach is not the problem. Who’s next…Peppermint Patty?

The Niner’s are popping the cork
On the bubbly in thanks for the pork
That lured a new coach,
But if this fresh approach
Doesn’t work we may need a new York.

Chilean Miner Runs New York

It was great to hear that Edison Pena, the Chilean miner, had finished the New York marathon. He was invited as a guest but insisted on running despite his limited training facilities…at the bottom of a collapsed mine! The outpouring of support was as tremendous as his effort. Kudos to New Yorkers for going the distance for Edison!

San Francisco Giants are World Champions

The San Francisco Giants win the World Series! It’s been 54 years since this team last won it all and that was when they were back in New York. Since moving to San Francisco they’ve come close a couple of times but never went the distance. It’s been a lot of fun cheering them on. There’s partying in the streets tonight!

With a pitching staff mostly homegrown
This team full of misfits has shown
The City by the Bay
How well they can play
With a World Series win of their own.
