Two Senators Not Worth Two Cents

These two Senators introduced a bill calling for regime change in Iran. The worst part is, they are openly influenced e.g. take money from the American Israel Public Affair Committee. These folks brag about their unlimited influence in both houses of Congress. So let me get this straight, we should send in our boys to die so these two can keep their Israeli money spigot flowing. I think the good folks in Texas and Kansas need to take a long hard look at these two jokers.

The Senate we fill by election
A process that’s far from perfection.
Take Cornyn and Brownback
Who want to attack
To protect their Israeli connection.

Colbert Knows His Retards

Every time Sarah Palin makes the news it’s for something stupid or irrelevant. The big to-do over the word retards is case in point (please check out this video with Stephen Colbert). Enough with the politically correct (whatever that means). Mentally disabled, retarded, tomato, tomaaato. Get over it. Most of the people referred to as retarded are not even mentally disabled…e.g. Sarah Palin.

It’s funny how some have discarded
Common sense for some words they regarded
As offensive but who,
Don’t get the clue
That it’s them that we’re calling retarded.

Obama and the Dalai Lama Tweak China

I think Obama’s tough stance on China is not only appropriate but needed. They respect only strength. This may be a more common occurrence over the next decade as our interests continue to collide. Meeting the Dalai Lama sends a message that we will do whatever we damn please, thank you very much! The fact that they hold a lot of our debt means nothing. The growth of their economy is still dependent on exports. Before you embark on revenge, dig two graves – Confucius

China thinks ’cause they’re holding our debt
They can dictate the rules for Tibet.
Their claims of internal
Are seen as infernal,
When the Dalai Lama cannot be met.

No More Men on the Moon

Obama’s budget essentially kills the current project to send men back to the moon. Sounds good to me. Been there, done that. Mars is the new destination. He also wants to leverage private enterprise to make new rockets. Somebody please tell the Congressmen from Florida and Utah that their pork barrel just got smaller. To infinity and beyond!

Said Obama, “no man-on-the-moon,
It’s time to be changing our tune.”
To see their pork barrel
Put in such peril
Has Congressmen starting to swoon.

Foreigners Can Now Buy Elections

We’re now learning some of the unintended consequences of the recent Supreme Court ruling allowing unlimited corporate spending on elections. What is to prevent a foreign nation from sponsoring their own candidates and funding through an American subsidiary?  Sounds far-fetched but now that it’s perfectly legal anything can happen. For a new Senator, Al Franken has some surprising common sense. That does not bode well for an extended political career.

Al Franken is worried elections
Are open to foreign infections
With companies unbound
From throwing around,
The cash to insure their selections.

Sarah Palin + Fox = zzzzzzz

I think Sarah Palin and Fox News are made for each other. They both pander to the conservative ‘fluff nuts’ who think anyone who’s anti-abortion is qualified to run the country. You’d think the Republicans would offer up someone with an ounce of intelligence but I’m beginning to think they’d vote for a Rhesus Monkey if it would get them back in the White House. Then all we need is Dick Cheney as Vice President and we’re right back where we started.

Sarah Palin is back in the news
Seems Fox will air anyone’s views.
They’re culling the best
With this arduous test,
“Can they chew gum and tie their own shoes?”

Sarah Palin and My Goldfish

For the life of me I cannot understand peoples’ attraction to Sarah Palin. She’s not that bright, she has nothing to say other than standard rhetoric and well….she’s just not that bright. But then again, neither was George Bush and he was elected twice! As long as you’re anti-abortion and anti-gay, you’re a viable Republican candidate. With that in mind I’d like to nominate Goldie my goldfish. She’s anti-abortion because she lays eggs and anti-gay because she can only remember the last 10 seconds (not enough time to figure out what gay is and why it’s bad). I also think she would handle the media crush better than Sarah. After all, she’s lived in a ‘fish bowl’ her whole life.

Sarah Palin is back in the news
But her book is more of a ruse.
With her brains still lacking
The only ones backing
Her cause are conservative rubes.

Obama-rama Meets China

President Obama met with the Chinese this week but nothing substantial happened. Just as planned. The whole trip was a scripted affair, even the town meeting where Obama had hoped to talk openly to some real people. The Chinese would have none of that. They control all the media and know how to use it. Free speech is not even in their dictionary.

The Chinese are meeting Obama
But afraid of his positive karma.
With his contact constricted
And talks mostly scripted,
It’s their same old news spin-o-rama.

Praying for Health Care

The Catholic church has decided to weigh in on the Health Care debate. Sorry guys (literally) but there is no place for you at the table. First off we have this little thing called separation of church and state. Secondly, I don’t subsidize you with my taxes to have you then show up and try to influence policy. In short…back off! If you want to get into politics…let’s have a vote for Pope.

The Catholic church wants a say
In the Health Care debate underway.
As they don’t pay their freight
With a zero tax rate,
Their role is to stay away and pray.

“They’re as useless as the SEC”

The SEC is a joke! More evidence continues to surface on how badly they mangled the Bernie Madoff case.  It’s beyond laughable. Now we have this latest insider trading arrest to show they’re back on the job and taking no prisoners. Baloney! Their reputation and credibility are toast. Changing bureaucrats at the top is like changing horses on the merry-go-round…you’re still going around in circles. Somebody stop this ride and let me off.

The SEC has a pitiful score,
Of uncovering the con men before,
The money’s withdrawn
And conclusion foregone.
They’re as useless as tits on a boar.

Ill Health

The Health Care reform bill keeps moving toward passage in Congress. I generally support the bill in order to protect the consumer from the questionable practices of insurance companies. The problem with insurance of any kind is that, by the time you find out a company has screwed you, it’s too late to do anything about it. We need the government to protect the little guy. That said, I never trust our elected representatives to pass anything this big that does not raise taxes in the long run. Looks like we’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t.

The progress on health care is steady
Though the costs are still rather heady.
When finally it passes
I fear for my taxes.
I’m feeling a bit sicker already.

A Noble Nobel Winner

This award has generated a lot of controversy since day one. While it’s true that an small, eclectic group makes these decisions, the award of a Nobel Prize still carries a lot of weight around the world. The GOP wonks are just mad they’ve never won, which in itself shows the process works.  Obama has inspired people around the world and reminded us that sometimes…sometimes…the cream still rises to the top.

The Nobel committee caused a fuss
Giving Obama the win and thus,
His Nobel Prize
Came as a surprise,
To him, as well as to us.

Afghan Debate

It’s a very interesting debate going on now about our role in Afghanistan. Obama’s trying to focus on specific goals and the military chiefs are advocating more troops. Are these two ideas mutually exclusive or ???  The only problem I have with using more troops is the end game. How long do we have to stay? Seems to me the minute we pull out, some else moves in to fill the void. Tough problem. At the very least I’m comforted that no one is using the term ‘evil doers’.

Genghis Khan, the Russians and the Brits,
All invaded and then called it quits.
A small piece of turf
On the ass of the Earth.
Afghanistan keeps giving us fits.

So Cui Bono – Who Benefits?

Filed under: Events, Politics — @ 3:00 am

The title of this post is an old Roman quote that’s very apropos to the case of Roman Polanski. Who indeed? I don’t agree with or condone his actions but the time has passed for retribution or punishment. Nobody will benefit. I think the Swiss are just sucking up to the United States to prevent further inroads into their banking system secrecy.  It’s all to late, the shine is off the Swiss. They’re now just another small European country with nothing special to offer and no leverage in world affairs.

The case of Roman Polanski
Is something I cannot agree.
So cui bono?
Nobody I know.
It’s a case of legal debris.

Rep. Joe Wilson Impresses

It used to be we could have real discussions and debates even though we did not agree on the issues. Health care reform has burst that bubble.  These fringe Republicans seem to have the emotional maturity of a 12 year old. As far as calling Obama a liar,  isn’t that like the pot calling the kettle black? (hee…hee…no racial slur intended).

Rep.Wilson has found a prescription
For unwanted attention to diction.
“You lie” was his call
But that applies to them all.
It’s part of their job description.
