Ever since the re-election of George Bush, I’ve lost faith in the collective intelligence of the American electorate. It’s not that I’m smarter than the rest, it’s that a majority of voters are emotionally driven and not willing or able to think through the complexities of the problems we face. They yearn for simple answers and thus are rewarded with simpletons who provide them. This is nothing new. Conservatism is based on fear and fear breeds ignorance. The pendulum swings back and forth with just enough progressive momentum to allow for measured progress. It often feels torturously slow but that’s as fast as we can go. C’est la vie.
The electorates’ memory has shorted
And their brain power most surely aborted,
When voting to bring
Back those who sing
The same song but newly distorted.
