Rube Goldberg on Life

I always like these engineering type contests. This video is about building a Rube Goldberg contraption to dispense hand lotion. You could make a case they’re an apt metaphor for how things get done in the real world. Give a large organization or government department a simple objective and watch it wind it’s way through all the various layers, process and bureaucracy to see what comes out the other end. Often times the end product is unrecognizable, but sometimes it actually works as planned!

Events can be more than they seem
The trick is to find what they mean.
Though easy to doubt
Sometimes they work out
Like a ball in Rube Goldberg’s machine.
