Football season begins! Enough of the boring pre-season games. I’ll be interested to see if Michael Vick can return to form. The man’s no saint but there are a lot worse people than him and most of them wear suits!
There once was a fellow named Vick
Whose legalese wasn’t that slick.
No billions in fraud,
He bet fighting dogs
And fetched the short end of the stick.

This election looks a lot like the one in Iran which we vociferously deplored. Ahh…the perils of foreign policy. Prop them up now only to turn them into enemies later. We don’t do a very good job at this.
The Afghanistan elections remind
Of the one in Iran we maligned.
“Get out the vote”
Means padding the tote
And incumbents are always entwined.

Health care reform is a tough nut. Everyone has an opinion, most of them different. But money for cars? That’s easy. Hopefully they won’t overlap.
Health care reform’s in a funk
It’s once broad support, now shrunk.
Voters by far
Prefer cash for a car.
How ironic, it ends with a clunk.

Obama wants to address school children with a message to stay in school, work hard and get a good education. Of course, conservatives are belly-aching about ‘indoctrination’. The first President Bush did the same thing in 1991 and the Democrats were blustering back then. The message is good and simple, so how about we give it a rest for a day and pick up the battle again tomorrow?
Obama’s attempt to inspire
Is met with predictable ire
Learning is cool
So stay in school
For that can we get a ceasefire?

Gov. of Maryland Martin O’Malley says it’s your ‘patriotic’ duty to get a flu shot. Never mind there isn’t enough vaccine to go around. I prefer to reserve my patriotism for voting clowns like this out of office…except I don’t live in Maryland. He gets a limerick instead.
O’Malley would like to see you
Be a patriot through and through
Get a ‘shot’ in the arm
What can it harm?
Or did you forget the swine flu.

Each summer the wildfires plague California just as hurricanes plague the Southeast coast. The funny thing is…nobody leaves! They come back, if they can, and pick up right where they left off thinking the next fire will be somewhere else, which it usually is right up until it isn’t.
California’s burning again
Happens each summer and then
We bemoan the loss
And shoulder the cost
It’s a yearly regimen.
